Bears From Chairs was inspired by my wife and I’s first born son. We own a vintage modern furniture store in Phoenix called Modern Manor. On New Year’s Day in 2011, we found out we were pregnant with our first child. That same day, we found an original 1960’s rosewood and leather Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman. It had a big rip in the seat and needed to be reupolstered…something we do quite often to vintage pieces with upholstery issues. I told my wife Kylie that I thought we should salvage the leather and make a teddy bear for our new baby boy. Then I thought hmmmm…..that’s kind of a cool idea. Over the next few months, we played with the idea and came up with Bears From Chairs.

Bears From Chairs is a colletion of hand sewn teddy bears made from the original fabric of important, modern designer chairs from the 20th century. There are so many amazing chairs that were designed with such beautiful fabrics and leathers, and it is such a shame that a simple rip or stain means the whole chair’s worth of upholstery goes in the trash can. We are saving it by making hand sewn, hand numbered and named bears.

Each bear carries part of the name of the designer attached to the chair that the upolstery came from. You can only get so many bears from 1 chair, so they are limited and numbered accordingly……making them truly one of kind.

We hope you like them!
